ALOFT- American League of Functional Therapists |

|
Functional Therapy, OT for the 21st Century and Beyond. |
|
Our tether to the incredible approaches and practices of Occupational Therapy help us as individuals to soar.
What might happen if we were not spending all our time redefining Occupations and instead were redefining function? |
|
About Us Logo’s and dreams. |
|
Our Logo:
The American League of Functional Therapists, or ALOFT, is a membership organization formed for the purpose of popularizing the purpose and function (if not the name) of Occupational therapy. We are pursuing a Collective Trademark that our members may use the titles “Registered Functional Therapist RFTTM” and “Registered Functional Therapy Associate RFTATM”.
Our logo is the Flying Kite because the liberation of flight is the dream of many OTs. We know the value we can bring; we just need to be seen. The wind is always blowing and we can ride it to great heights because of our attachment to the ground.
A kite cannot fly on its own. It needs a string to anchor it and stop it from being tossed on the winds. That anchor is our foundation in Occupational Therapy… the string is invisible to all observers but the weight of that attachment gives us our wings.
The need to bring a new and more relevant name to the field of Occupational Therapy is felt by many. New graduates I have spoken with lament that our name makes us difficult to understand. I feel I am constantly selling the value we provide and it seems a losing battle. Imagine, I had never even heard of Occupational Therapy before my 3rd year in University. It is by tremendous luck that I discovered it at all, and serendipity that I was just in time to choose my career path.
I am so happy to welcome you to our organization and hope that you will be a part of helping us soar.
Yours, Ed Kaine, RFT, OTR/L President of ALOFT
