ALOFT- American League of Functional Therapists

Functional Therapy, OT for the 21st Century and Beyond.

How can I sign up?

There are several levels of membership participation. ALOFT seeks to register all OTs and OTAs to use the titles Registered Functional Therapist RFTTM or Registered Functional Therapy Associate RFTATM. Our mission is to help OT expand and be more understandable to the public as “Functional Therapy”. In order to protect this title to those individuals who have completed the training and practice true OT we have trademarked the titles and seek higher levels of trademark to further ensure public safety and qualification of care providers. The Certification Mark & Trademark Title is conferred to members based on qualifications and not due to membership solely. Those qualifications are verified upon application and clarified based on the level as indicated below.

Registered Functional Therapist RFTTM

    1) Graduate of an Occupational Therapy program approved by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) or accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).

    2) Current License as an OTR/L or OT/L (USA: State, Canada: Provincial)  and qualifications to maintain that license (continuing education, treatment time, etc. per license requirements.)

Please note: current qualification to practice is based on the high standards many state and provincial governments and regulating agencies have for qualifying OTs to practice. In order to accept these as certification standards each is reviewed to ensure it meets an accepted standard. Current licenses and registrations in the U.S. and Canada which have been reviewed for this standard are Connecticut, New York, Alabama, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan and Alberta. New areas and licenses are reviewed by ALOFT’s and LOFT’s management as interested parties inquire.
