Mission: We strive to increase understanding of the benefits of the Occupational Therapy models and approaches. To help Occupational Therapists and Assistants more effectively communicate their value and make their message more accessible. We will follow the trend of making our treatments and documentation understandable and accessible to making our field as user friendly. One approach to this is through efforts to increase acceptance of a new name - Functional Therapy. We recognize that the generic term may be used colloquially by many disciplines and therefore have protected the names “Registered Functional Therapist RFTTM” and “Registered Functional Therapist Associate RFTATM” as col1lective trademarks protected in Connecticut and federally in the US and Canada. We will support Occupational Therapists and Assistants from other countries to help us protect the titles in their countries.
Vision: We believe that using the Influence Factors of Personal, Social and Structural Motivation and Ability can help guide the future of healthcare. The Models which Occupational Therapy has invented and embraced have potential to improve life for everyone. Our members are the forward thinking therapists that see the value in a more accessible name to bring a needed change to healthcare and the world. That is a change towards looking at the whole person in terms of what things could make their life easier and how we can guide them to take charge in the process.
Values: We are so impressed with all the fine work that the various Organizations for OT as well as the Occupational Therapists themselves have done to propel this field. What we are doing, we do knowing that it may be perceived as threatening to some. We feel that this is the right course for us as individual members of this great profession. We are loyal Occupational Therapists who want to be called Functional Therapists. In the interests of this we have worked to ensure that it could be a protected name. Also, we have worked to avoid stepping on the toes of the other organizations. Not only that, we are interested in joining our efforts as much as possible. We welcome contact, questions and suggestions that will help us all to work well together.
Thank you for your openness to exploring what we are doing. |
